Information about the "Fort MacLeod Museum" photograph:

This unique fort is a museum which is home to the North West Mounted Police and driving past the exterior walls peaks one's interest to find out what is actually behind this wooden structure. When driving Highway 3 in Fort MacLeod, Alberta you can not miss the walls that surround the museum.

Once you enter through the main entrance at the fort you will walk into a world where you can learn the history behind the North West Mounted Police dating back to the 1870's. Sir John A. MacDonald first introduced a bill into Parliament that was passed just over two weeks later and the North West Mounted Police were then formed.

The fort was originally built in 1874 and when you visit the museum today you will find an authentic replica of it which marks a place that takes you back through historical times. It was a hard journey for the police that had to fight with the natural climates of the cold, snow conditions, frequent gale winds, floods and extreme fires.

Gift Shops, the NWMP Musical Ride, the Interpretative Programs as well as all the different displays in the museum makes for an interesting afternoon while in Fort MacLeod in Southern Alberta, Canada. The museum is opened from the beginning of May until the end of October but certain events take place at different times throughout the year so be sure to check the schedule if you are looking for something specific.
