Flowering Magnolia Tree: Scientific Name:
Magnolia grandiflora
The natural range of the Magnolia tree once included North America, Central America, the West Indies and southeast Asia but it now can be found in increasing numbers in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The magnolia tree is extremely fragrant when it is flowering and one of the most beautiful trees with about 223 different species.
The Magnolia tree has large, thick leathery dark leaves which can be up to 10" long and have a golden rust color to their undersides in specific seasons. The larger types of Magnolia tree can grow to 90' tall and the flowering blossoms have smooth, velvet types of petals on them.
The Magnolia tree requires a fair amount of space to be able to flower and grow properly and when the leaves drop they...
... take a long time to decompose. For a closer look at a flowering Magnolia tree in Bavaria, Europe, visit the Weihenstephan Brewery where the magnolia tree is an added attraction to the fine beer available.
