In the 11th century the monks who lived on the Iles de Lerins built the Tower Castre which is connected to the Cannes Castle and the lovely Chapelle-Ste-Anne, built in the 12th century. The Castle of Cannes sits high on Le Suquet, the name of the hill and the old town of Cannes in Provence, France.
The location of the Castre Tower and Cannes Castle in this Riviera town of Cannes in France gave the monks a great advantage in case of any attack from the many enemies of the time.
During daylight, from the lookout atop the Castre Tower the view of Cannes and the 12 kilometers of beaches is fantastic, but at night the floodlit Tower Castre is also striking. Also fine archaeological items and many paintings of the local Mediterranean scenes from the 18th and 19th centuries.
