During the Spring, when a majority of water rushes over the rock ledges at Fantail Falls in Mt Aspiring National Park in New Zealand, the water spreads across the rocks amongst the rainforest growth, resembling a fan. This is where this scenic waterfall adapted its name as it drops fifteen meters into the stream below.
At the base of Fantail Falls, the water merges into one area eventually continuing into the stream in a downward pattern. The rainforest flourishes on either side of the falls with some of the growth laying across the surface of the water during the summer months.
To reach Fantail Falls in Mt Aspiring National Park on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, a short hike of approximately five minutes from the highway will get you there.
