Endangered Bald Eagle: Scientific Name:
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Declared as Endangered in 1978 because numbers of the bald eagle had declined from 300,000 - 500,000 in the early 1700\'s to 10,000 nesting pairs in the 1950s, and then to 500 pairs by the early 1960s. The cause was humans, by using pesticides, shooting the eagles, and polluting waterways.
Since 1978 the Bald Eagle has been listed as an Endangered species.
