Information about the "Discovery Harbour Ontario Canada" photograph:

The history of Discovery Harbour in Ontario, Canada dates back many years to the Penetanguishene British naval and military base era when this world was constructed during the War of 1812. Many ships were prepared to help the various British posts and it was not long after that, in 1820, that Discovery Harbour was home to approximately seventy people and at least twenty vessels. The majority of the people were either sailors, officers, shipwrights and soldiers and the buildings were built to house these people.

Soon the men were joined by their families and French traders also became some of the residents of Discovery Harbour and not long after, the British Army pensioners moved in. The dockyard, sailor's barracks, an assistant's surgeon house, a cemetary, a commanding officer's house, a naval surveyor's house, the Keating House and the Officer's Quarters were some of the more prestige buildings constructed.

When visiting Discovery Harbour in Ontario, Canada today, you will find this unique historic site that sits on the Penetanguishene Bay to be one of the most pristine and interesting places to see while in Ontario. Summer is one of the best times to visit Discovery Harbour as the daily events, tours, shows, entertainment, restaurant and the boardwalk has an endless agenda. The children will enjoy seeing the replicas of the HMS Bee and HMS Tecumseth ships that were used back in the 1800's.

Discovery Harbour in Ontario, Canada is opened from the end of May until the beginning of September each year and the fee to see this historic site is minimal. The Officer's Quarters which has been restored many times, is the only original building that still stands in Discovery Harbour but it is always inspected to be sure that everything is kept intact at all times.
