Edvard Benes became President of Czechoslovakia in 1935 to 1938 and again from 1945 to 1948 where his presidency term got broken by World War II during which time he was president-in-exile from 1940 to 1945. President Benes resigned from his leadership on June 7, 1948 and died of natural causes on September 3, 1948.
The years prior to being president of Czechoslovakia Edvard Benes was appointed as a statesman and then became this country's first foreign minister. Many political tales are behind the years of President Edvard Benes and the decrees put in place in Czechoslovakia during his reign.
Top officials of Czechoslovakia unveiled this statue of the former President in front of the Foreign Ministry at Prague Castle in 2005. This statue of President Edvard Benes has caused some controversy over the last couple of years but to date the statue remains standing in Prague, Europe and the gold lettering of his name glistens in the sunlight.
