Cute Lemur Animal Auckland Zoo: Scientific Name:
Lemur catta
This cute little lemur finds a safe place to enjoy his snack in his habitat at the Auckland Zoo on the North Island of New Zealand. In the wild, the Ring-tailed Lemur primarily feeds on fruit but will also eat leaves and plants if fruit is scarce.
You can see that this cute lemur eats with his hands just as humans do only it has long slender fingers and flat, sharp nails. It is not that often that you get a good look at the underside of a lemur but you can see that the fur is white underneath and mostly grey elsewhere. They have long narrow faces which are white except for the big black patches around their eyes and the snout. The tops of their heads make them appear to be wearing a black cap.

... great deal of time on the ground but they also take to the trees for a good part of their lives. This particular species of lemur actually spends more time on the ground than any other type of lemur. There are about thirty lemur species left in the wild and they are only found in Madagascar in Africa.
The Auckland Zoo in New Zealand is a great place to view Ring-tailed lemurs as there is a whole family that resides here. If you are lucky, you may get a cute family photo of the father, mother and six siblings that have been part of the Auckland Zoo since 1997.
