A cougar eyes up its prey and gets ready to pounce. A cougar will stalk its prey to within approximately 30 feet before pouncing from behind its cover. The cougar is extremely agile with powerful jumping or leaping ability. Their prefered food is deer but will prey on mammals such as coyotes, marmots, hares, raccoons, mice, beavers, and birds.
