Tourists who travel the road from Huesca to Iruna (Pamplona) in Spain, and do not turn off at the sign to Bolea are missing a most interesting little village in Aragon, Spain. The side road passes through farmland until you come to the village of Bolea.
On a hill above Bolea you will find the impressive Colegiata de Santa Maria built in 1556. An Arabian castle once stood on the site of this Renaissance church in Bolea in Huesca, Aragon in Spain. When visitors enter the Colegiata they are sure to enjoy the beauty of the main altarpiece consisting of seventy-seven paintings, the work of an anonymous painter known only as the 'master of Bolea'. The sculptures and carvings are credited to Gil de Brabante.
Bolea in Spain was quite an important little community until the 18th century and since then it has become a pleasant little village welcoming any visitors who are lucky enough to turn off the main road.
