Clyde is a small historic town located in Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand surrounded by hills. It sits at the end of the Cromwell Gorge. Throughout the town, you will find two general shops, a community hall, swimming pool, parks, museums, churches, accommodations and eating establishments.
Each side of the main street in the town of Clyde has green poles joined together by chain links and flower planters and tables sitting outside of the shops. Clyde is a town that became a well known place on the map in the 1800's during the gold rush and the first Europeans to enter into New Zealand settled here. Many of the older buildings still remain throughout the town such as a hotel, post office, council buildings and stone cottages. Three museums can be visited while visiting Clyde that brings to light the true history that surrounds the town.
Each year, more people are traveling to Central Otago, New Zealand and the town of Clyde is becoming more popular every year. The Clyde Dam and Lake Dunstan are two of the major attractions while visiting Clyde but the quiet main street with the small shops are also lovely to browse through.
