The Gorges du Verdon is situated in the Parc Naturel Regional du Verdon in Provence, France and the D952 road travels along the Rive Droite side, or the North Rim of the Verdon Canyon. Travellers on the D952 can start from Castellane and drive the twisting road through the wild and rugged Gorges du Verdon to Moustiers Ste Marie.
The narrow two-lane cliffside road D952 has hair-raising turns and very few guardrails. It can be a little hard on the nerves if one meets a tour bus or a recreational vehicle on one of the turns. All these hazards are well worth the fantastic views of the Gorges du Verdon in Provence and the lovely Verdon River.
The D952 road is about 31 kilometers long and about half-way along it crosses a plateau and lavender fields. If travellers are coming from the Riviera to Provence one would start the D952 drive from Moustiers Ste Marie east to Castellane and on to Grasse or Nice.
