The town square of the picturesque town of Toblach in the South Tyrol region of Italy is enhanced by the circular fountain with its waters glistening in the sun. The spire in the background belongs to the lovely Baroque parish church of Saint John the Baptist built in the latter part of the 18th century and was constructed on the same site as the previous Roman and Gothic churches.
There may not have been a fountain in the town square of Toblach, Italy in the early 9th century when the town was first recorded, the Italian name being Dobbiaco, but today the fountain and the town square can be a spot to meet for residents and travellers alike.
Toblach, Italy is a popular vacation spot especially during the winter as it is close...
... to great ski areas and even sports its own ski jump. During the summer months Toblach is a perfect starting place for hiking or biking into the nearby Dolomites or visit the nearby lake.
There are also annual 'music weeks' dedicated to the composer Gustav Mahler who spent a great deal of time in Toblach in South Tyrol, Italy and composed music here. The room where Mahler worked on his music is now open to the public. Toblach or Dobbiaco, Italy has a population of just over 3,000 but for a tranquil and restful vacation this little town is just the place to visit.
