As so many churches in France, Eglise-St-Trophime was built on the site of other early churches, and named for St Tropnime, a bishop of Arles in the 3rd century.
Eglise-St-Trophime in Arles was built during the 11th and 12th centuries and the west portal is considered to be one of the best examples of the Romanesque style of architecture.
