A day of remembrance, giving, and being with loved ones, Christmas day is a significant day all over the globe and one which honours the birth of Christ.
For many, their homes become a bustling meeting point, where family and friends gather around a decorated Christmas tree and pass out wrapped gifts, drink eggnog, and enjoy a feast.
Christmas markets get underway in many communities at the beginning of December and run until just days before the big event. Vendors have the opportunity to sell their works of art, unique handcrafted gifts, and Christmas decorations whether for the home or tree at the markets which usually attract large crowds.
Corporate and private parties are common place in the lead up to Christmas and are a chance for some people to reflect on the year that has been.
Although these are just a few of the manifestations of Christmas, Christmas does have it's foundations mostly in the Christian religion although there are references to similar celebrations in the Pagan and Roman religions.
