The Chacma Baboon poses for the camera as he checks out the visitors that come to check him out at the Auckland Zoo on the North Island of New Zealand. Mainly ground dwellers, the Chacma Baboon finds grasslands, semi-desert, rocky caves and seaside cliffs as their home surroundings.
The baboon lives in social groups of between 20-50 animals and will always have one dominant male and one dominant female leading the group. The rest of the females and the young Chacma Baboons will be in the center with the rest of the male population surrounding them. This way the male baboon(s) are always prepared to defend their troop.
The Chacma Baboon is the largest member of the monkey family and males can weigh from 59 to to 97 pounds with the female being 31 to 37 pounds. They are extremely hairy animals with olive-gray fur that usually sticks up all over their bodies.
If visiting the Auckland Zoo in New Zealand be sure not to miss the habitat of the adorable Chacma Baboon and his family.
