This beautifully tiled ceramic fountain sits in the Plaza de Espana in the village of Vejer de la Frontera along the Costa de la Luz in the Province of Cadiz in Andalusia. In the middle of the plaza is the monument to Spain's first Constitution in 1812, which started in Cadiz; this was the beginning of the end of the Spanish Inquisition. This water feature is one of the other decorations in the plaza.
This plaza was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century as part of a reconstruction of the old parts of the city...
... to make them stronger and to refurbish them to last for many more years.
It is built in the middle of a small park, and it is close to downtown, as well as the port and the bus station. The buildings around the outside are residences, as well as some art houses and there are often free concerts held in the square.
Many people visit this area all year round, from school children who learn about Spain's history, to locals on their lunch break, and tourists who want to see a pleasant space in Spain that is perhaps not as impressive as the Plaza de Espana in Sevilla, but is pretty and interesting all in its own way.
