The Loop Trail is one of many different walking trails throughout Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island where you stroll under the shadow of the towering Douglas Fir and Red Cedar trees. Some of these trees are over eight hundred years old and the size of them is unbelievable.
Cathedral Grove is a place where the natural growth of the rainforest thrives with each tree fending off the different storms that Mother Nature sends through. A massive storm in 1997 sent trees toppling and another in 2006 but this is all due to natural disasters not that of human nature.
Once again, more trees are being cut down in Cathedral Grove to make another parking lot. This will be destroying the habitats of the wildlife and some of the old growth...
... trees. Somewhere along the way humans must leave well enough alone and just enjoy nature, not destroy it.
Thousands of tourists cross this boardwalk annually to admire the true beauty of this Vancouver Island rainforest. Depending on the time of year you are visiting Cathedral Grove, be wary of the boardwalks as the colder weather can make them very slick.
