The Castre Tower is just one of the interesting and historical places to see when visiting Le Suquet in the city of Cannes on the Cote d'Azur, Provence in France. The Le Suquet is a neighbourhood in the Old Town of Cannes and if you climb up Rue de Suquet (which is quite narrow and steep), then follow the Avenue de la Tour steps to the Place de la Castre, you will discover the Castre Tower and La Castre Chateau.
The Castre Tower is part of the Chateau, also known as Cannes Castle. The Castre Tower and Chateau of Cannes, Provence were built by the Monks of Lerins in the 11th century to protect the port. The lookout at the top of the Castre Tower in Le Suquet provides wonderful views of Cannes, the bay and the Mediterranean Sea.
As well as the Castre Tower and Chateaus, the Musee de la Castre located in the Chapel in the Chateau is where you will find many art exhibits and archaeological findings from the local Mediterranean area.
After your visit to the Castre Tower, the walk down to the port of Cannes is far easier than the climb up.
