Castle Rock stands at approximately 162 meters high and sits upon the long stretches of beach near the reef that is made up of fossil-rich limestone that shelters the lagoon of Castlepoint. In the lagoon, there is a whole other world of natural history and it is the perfect place to spend the day enjoying the water activities.
There are hiking trails through the pine forest over the lagoon that take you to the top of Castle Rock and from here the scenery is breathtaking. The area around the reef is where many fishermen spend their day but never venture into the open waters around the reef as it is very dangerous and one never knows what the sea may whip up.
Always keep your eyes open when along the water's edge of Castlepoint as dolphins, fur seals and seabirds love to spend time around these rock formations.
