The medieval town of Soave dates back to Roman times when it was a stopping place on the Postumia road connecting Aquileia and Genoa. Soave Castle in the province of Verona, Italy was first mentioned during the Magyar invasion of the 10th century. It was owned by the Counts Greppi in the 13th century, but the castle that now stands atop Monte Tenda was rebuilt and reinforced in 1375.
Cansignorio of the Scaligeri family is said to be the mastermind behind most of this very elegant castle. The Soave Castle in Verona, Italy has a 'donjon', an impressive great tower, in the centre of three circular walls that enclose three courts. Twenty-four smaller towers completes the structure.
