There are many shapes and sizes of castles, some hundreds of years old and others relatively new.
A Castle is generally a fortified structure built as a defence against the enemy and possible attacks. However, castles were not only built for protection, they were also homes.
The medieval castles were built surrounded by high walls which had draw bridges. Often small villages dwelled within the castle walls.
We have visited many castles throughout Europe including Germany, Spain, France, Austria, and the Czech Republic and a desert castle in the USA.
