While exploring the crumbling remains of the Castle of Loarre, we were accidently locked into this 11th Century fortress.
How could this happen- you ask? The Castle of Loarre has a series of precariously rambling paths, ladders, and flights of steps. You could spend hours exploring the castle towers, dungeons and keep or admiring the stupendous views of the Ebro plain of Aragon.
Something we hadn't calculated on during our visit to the Castle of Loarre is that we arrived shortly before siesta time! There is nothing that will hold the Spanish back from their siesta time, not even tourists. So right on 2pm the workers at this old Castle packed up and took off, locking the massive door behind them! We're talking about a castle...
... that has stood since the 11th Century - these fortresses were built to keep the enemy out and the good guys in and we were no exception.
We managed after several hours to get out .... but we won't tell how we did it!
