Information about the "Castle Church Aragon" photograph:

The road to the Castillo de Loarre, Loarre Castle in Huesca, Aragon in Spain is steep and winding but it is worth the drive to visit the 11th century Castle Loarre, which is possibly the oldest castle in Spain.

Toward the end of the 11th century, a second construction program was started by Peter I of Aragon and Navarre and it was at this time that the Castle Church of Loarre in Aragon, France was built. Over the centuries many restorations were done on the church and castle, the last as recent as the 1970s.

The church of the Castillo de Loarre in Spain has a single-cell nave with two bays. One of the bays is topped by a cupola giving an illusion of great height.

The south door of the castle church leads to a vaulted staircase which takes one down to a passage under the church to a north-facing entrance, passing the crypt along the way.

The Romanesque Loarre Castle, the castle church and chapel have outstanding views of the Ebro valley and during the 11th and 12th centuries were in a strategic situation between Muslim and Christian territories.
