The Val d'Aran, or the Aran Valley, can be found in the northwest area of Catalonia in Spain. It is not a very large valley, just over 620 square kilometers, but it has spectacular cascading waterfalls and an abundance of wildflowers such as the yellow buttercups.
The Val d'Aran in Catalonia, Spain is situated on the north face of the Pyrenees and is the headwaters of the Garonne river which drains into the Atlantic Ocean. Because of the location of the Val d'Aran it also has an Atlantic climate, usually wet and cold - which supplies the river with lots of rushing water to produce the cascading waterfall.
The narrow outlet in the rock-face for the waterfall makes the scene more spectacular, and the hardy buttercups thrive in the damp atmosphere, although as anyone who has a garden knows they will grown anywhere.
