Carlo Angeloni was born on July 16, 1834 in the city of Lucca, Province of Lucca in Tuscany, Italy.
He was a very talented musician but unfortunately never received world-wide acclaim. Angeloni was a popular and respected teacher at the Instituto Musicale Pacini, where he taught many aspects of the voice, including singing, harmony and counterpoint. He also was an accomplished organist. Among many musicians who received their musical education from Carlo Angeloni, probably the most famous was another prodigy from Lucca by the name of Giacomo Puccini, whose operas Tosca, Madam Butterfly and...
... La Boheme are world famous.
Alfredo Catalani (born in Lucca) was another of Angeloni's students, he was also a composer of great promise, who composed the operas Loreley and La Wally, but tuberculosis cut his life short at age 39. Carlo Angeloni composed songs, musical pieces for piano, band and orchestra and also five operas, but his work was only played in Lucca and local towns and villages. None of his musical compositions were published, a great loss to the music world. The city of Lucca honoured Angeloni, who died in 1901, with an impressive bust and a street named for him - Via Carlo Angeloni.
