Construction of the Cape Spear Lighthouse was completed by September 1836. The lighthouse was responsible for aiding mariners in and out of the St John's Harbour. Since being declared a National Historic Site, the Cape Spear Lighthouse and keepers residence have been restored to their original appearance of around the mid 1800's.
