As tourists venture down the paths from the Australasian Gannet Colony in Hawkes Bay on the North Island of New Zealand, they can enjoy the magnificent scenery. These birds sit high upon the cliffs overlooking the stunning blue colors of the ocean as the waves lap along the coastline below.
When the tide is out you can see where the water is shallow and slowly changes colors as it becomes deeper around Hawkes Bay. There is a beach hugging the coastline that you can walk along to the point during low tide and get a different perspective of the amazing scenery that the North Island of New Zealand offers.
From the base of the cliffs, you can watch the Gannets make incredible fast paced dives into the water to capture their next meal and get a good look at their massive wing span. Thousands of gannets spend time here during the breeding season and it is quite a sight to see while visiting New Zealand.
Tourists to this area will find the climb up to the Gannet colony a fair bit strenuous but coming down the cliffs is quite a different story. A fairly easy journey down which also gives you time to appreciate the scenery and take a handful of pictures if you have any left after capturing the Gannets on film.
