The Cap-des-Rosiers Lighthouse at Land's End on the Gaspesie Peninsula along Highway 132 in Quebec, Canada. This is Canada's tallest lighthouse and is visited by many people every year to see it and have a close-up look at a historical lighthouse. The lighthouse is 34.1 meters tall, with 2.4 meters of concrete built in to the ground so that the structure has a really solid base and won't fall over due to strong winds or possible water damage.
The lighthouse was built in 1858 with white marble, and has a really powerful light on it that is situated 41.4 meters above sea level. The light emitted by the lighthouse extends so far out to sea that passing ships...
... have plenty of time to see where the coast is and to avoid a major collision.
In 1977, the site was declared a National Historic Site by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, so that the site will be preserved for many years and people will be able to visit and experience a little piece of history. When tourists visit they can also tour the village of Cap-des-Rosiers, which is a historic fishing village and can also provide some history of the region and give its own glimpse back in time. Although you can only go inside the lighthouse during the main summer months, you can still visit the site and see the exterior as well as the village.
