Shaped almost like a warriors shield, the Canadian Shield covers a large portion of Canada. These specific areas include most of Quebec, and Ontario, parts of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Labrador, and a small part of Alberta. It also covers most of Greenland and a small portion of the USA.
As the shield is so huge, the climate varies hugely. It is very cold in the north, while very temperate in its southern reaches. The provincial parks of Quebec such as Parc de la Jacques-Cartier are some the the most scenic areas of the Canadian Shield the year round and in particular...
... during the colorful fall season. The scenery of the Canadian Shield was a favourite subject of the famous Group of Seven artists during the 1920's and 1930's.
Riviere (River) Jacques-Cartier, Jacques Cartier River, and valley surrounded by fall colours in Parc de la Jacques-Cartier, Quebec, Canada.
With an area of approximately 8 million square kilometres, the Canadian Shield is so vast that the geography contained within it is hugely diverse: from scenic mountain peaks such as those of the Laurentides in Quebec, to Hudson Bay in the North.
