The city of Siena is a town in the Siena Province, of Tuscany. It was first settled in the Etruscan period by a tribe called the Saina. Construction was first began on the Duomo, cathedral, in the twelfth century and is one of the best examples in the world of Italian Romanesque architecture. The facade of the cathedral was completed in 1380, but the Campanile bell tower came after, and towers proudly above the rest of the city.
