The town of Bruneck or Brunico (Italian) is the largest town in the Pusteral Valley of the South Tyrol in Italy where houses line the river bank. There are two different neighbourhoods to Bruneck separated by the Rienza river with the old town on one side and the modern manufacturing and industrial section on the other.
Bruneck/Brunico, in the Trentino Alto Adige area of South Tyrol, dates back to the middle of the 13th century when it was a very small community. During the next century walls enclosed the town complete with a moat. Being the lone settlement in the Val Pusteria it was natural that Bruneck would become the centre of trade in and around the South Tyrol in Italy and Austria.
The colourful Bruneck houses with different characteristics, can be home to shops, offices, restaurants or can even be private residences. The Stadtgasse, the popular shopping area, has these many coloured buildings on both sides of the street and visitors delight in exploring the boutiques, china shops or stopping for a coffee at one of the cafes.
The cheerfully tinted buildings can be found in different parts of Bruneck, Italy, and some back on to the river giving them a quiet, serene atmosphere.
