When visitors travel the road between Trent and Bozen in the South Tyrol, Italy, they should visit many of the vineyards along the route. Some of the finest wines in Italy are produced in this region. Vernatsch is one of the most popular of the red wines and the white wines showcase many pinot noirs and pinot grigios.
The pretty town of Bozen or Bolzano as it is called in Italian, dates back to the Middle Ages. Situated to the south of an Alpine pass, Bozen became a busy market town, at the meeting of the Talvera and Isarco rivers.
Although Bozen is in Italy one notices the German influence. The streets are narrow, the houses are Tyrolean in style and the German dialect is prevalent. This makes sense when one discovers that Bozen only became part of Italy after World War I.
