The Bluenose II schooner based in Lunenburg harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada is managed by the Lunenburg Marine Museum Society(since March 2005), and built to the same specifications as the original Bluenose schooner, which was launched in 1921.
The first Bluenose was not only a fishing boat, but also a racing vessel with Captain Angus Walters at the wheel and for 17 years won the International Fishermen's Trophy. ... the Nova Scotia government for one dollar, and a 'Bluenose II Preservation Trust' was formed.
The schooner was restored and repaired during the 1994-5 winter season. During the summer months the Bluenose II can accommodate 75 people each trip, for two-hour tours of the harbour, obviously a very popular tourist attraction. The life preservers bearing the famous name are also known as lifebuoys, liferings or 'kisby' rings, probably named for a British naval office - Thomas Kisbee (1792-1877).
