The Bell and Clock Tower of the Palazza Pubblico, which is the Town Hall in the town of Pienza, in the beautiful Tuscany is an iconic site in the town as it rises above restaurants, cafes, and shops in the Piazza Pio II.
This is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means that it is protected by the World Heritage Programme as an important part of the history of humanity to be preserved for years to come.
The Pizaa Pio II square is the centre of the whole town, and this is where people congregate to celebrate festivals, holidays and to hold any kind of public event. This...
... whole town, and especially this Piazza is a great example of Renaissance architecture and design. Many people come to this town every year to experience what life was like in a Renaissance town that has been left untouched for the most part since it was remodeled then.
The Bell and Clock Tower is part of the Palazzo Comunale, the Town Palace, and was the last building to be started in the remodeling of the Palazza Pubblico in the last half of the year 1462. This town currently houses the town hall and municipal government for the city. The Bell Tower seen here in the photograph was added at a lower height than the nearby Cathedral Bell Tower, as the rulers of the city wanted to make it clear that Church power takes precedence over civic power.
