Beautiful Purple Bougainvillea Flower Picture: Scientific Name:
Bougainvillea spectabilis
The beautiful Bougainvillea spectabilis vine is a bright and interesting plant which comes in a variety of colours including purple, and red.
When seen from a distance, it seems that the large flower is mauve with a white centre, but in truth the group of three small white flowers are the true blossoms and the surrounding 'bracts' are mauve. Bracts are attached either to the base of the flower or the stalk. The Bougainvillea will grow wherever it wants in the warm climate of Oliva Nova in Valencia, Spain but usually grows on walls and trees.
This beautiful flowering plant was discovered in Brazil by an admiral in the French Navy named Louis Antoine de Bougainville in 1768.
