Pictures of beaches from New Zealand to Greece, from Washington State to France.
Beaches come in a variety of forms such as golden or black sand, pebbles, and rocks! A beach is most often shaped by prevailing winds and waves which will decorate it with driftwood or kelp. A real treasure chest of goodies, a beach is a great place to explore and always has something to offer the beachcomber, from odd shaped mangled wood, different shapes and sizes of shells, sea birds, and interesting rock formations.
Sand dunes are a common feature of a sandy beach and many dunes are protected from heavy foot traffic. This is a bid to aid the regrowth of the grasses which hold the dunes together.
The wave action and gentle breeze along a beach (on a calm day) is for many a soothing motion for the soul and is a place to unwind. At the other end of the scale, storm watching has become a popular winter activity especially from the comfort of a warm and cozy lodge positioned along the fringe of a beach.
