Historic buildings spread out across the landscape of Battle Harbour in Southern Labrador, were once homes to the first permanent settlers who came to Battle Island in 1775 to work at the fishery which was established in 1770. In 1991, the fishery was discontinued and many of the local residents abandoned their homes.
Since then, starting in 1992, the Battle Harbour Historic Trust have had the buildings restored to their original condition to show tourists to Battle Harbour the way life was for the early settlers. The historic green and white building in the foreground is home to the General Store where visitors staying on Battle Island can buy necessities they may require while bedding down for a day or two.
