Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, from 1277 to 97, created the next 'floor' and Cellino di Nese topped the whole thing with the Gothic dome during the 1300s.

The Baptistery is the largest in Italy. The elegant decorative facade with statues of saints and angels are not all original, as some of Pisano's work is now in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. The Baptistery of Saint John in Pisa, Italy was built on the same sand as the Cathedral and the Tower, and due to the instability of the ground it is 0.6 degrees off plumb, leaning toward the Cathedral.
