Pairs of Australasian Gannets cover the landscape at Cape Kidnappers at Hawkes Bay on the North Island of New Zealand around the middle of August every year. By the end of September and through October, baby Australasian Gannet chicks are born and the families grow in size. At one time there were about fifty Australasian Gannets which resided here, but today the Cape Kidnappers colony has grown to about twenty-two hundred pairs.
