In a world of high-tech concrete and glass cities, it is easy to forget that we share this planet with innumerable creatures of all shapes, colors, and sizes. A browse through these few pages will serve to remind you just what diversity of life is out there of the feathered, furry, fishy, and four-legged kind.

Bird-watchers could do no better than a visit to New Zealand for some truly exceptional sights. The endangered Kaka and the pesky Kea are two native parrots, while the Variable Oystercatcher is a coastal feeder, prancing about on long pink legs.

Zoos and other animal reserves offer a chance to photograph some of the earth's rare creatures, such as the Sumatran Tiger. In the wild, this small tiger is found only on the Island of Sumatra, Indonesia, but the Auckland Zoo is doing their part to help conserve the species that now number less than 500 individuals. The Cotton Topped Tamarin is another happy resident of the Auckland Zoo, a monkey well-named for the sprout of white hair growing from the top of their heads.

Sea lions, seals, orcas and sperm whales share the salt water with acrobatic Dusky Dolphins, while Bottle-nosed dolphins perform tricks for a captive audience.

Big game roams free the world over, from Alaskan Brown Bears to horses high in the Pyrenees Mountains of Spain. Great bull moose with giant antlers stalk the woods and wetlands across Canada.

From the smallest Fairy Penguin to the tallest giraffe, each animal photo here will bring you closer to the wildlife that belongs on this planet.
