The ancient city of Jaca situated in the Aragon valley in the province of Huesca, in Aragon, Spain is now a winter destination for skiers, snowboarders and snow-shoe enthusiasts eager to test the Pyrenees mountains.
In the 11th century Jaca was the capital of Aragon and Jacetania, and in early medieval times Jaca began as the site of a ford, a shallow crossing, on the Aragon River in Spain, where traders followed a route from Pau to Zaragoza. Jaca in Aragon was also a haven for pilgrims wending their way over the Pyrenees Mountains along the 'Pilgrim's Road' Camino de Santiago.
