This is one of Spain's most famous tourist attractions now and draws thousands of visitors a year. As well as being an excellent example of Moorish architecture it also contains examples of 16th century Christian architecture as the building was modified later. The Palace of Charles V was built inside the Alhambra in 1527. The entire building is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it is protected for years to come by the World Heritage Program.
This is all located in the Albayzin district, with the centre of the town rising on a hill opposite the Alhambra, and many tourists come here primarily for the amazing views.
