This winter adventure trip took us from our new home, the wilderness community of Port McNeill on Vancouver Island, British Columbia all the way north to Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean in Alaska. On this trip which turned out to be real adventure travel, we drove close to 15,000 kms over a period of over four weeks.
At times our adrenalin levels peaked at 120% as we drove along ice roads, got caught between snow drifts for hours on a remote arctic highway, and regulary slept in a pickup truck with only a standard canopy in -45 degree temperatures.
These challenges were rewarded by the beautiful winter scenery accompanied by the Northern Lights, and the extremely diverse and well adapted wildlife that dwell in this harsh environment. We were rewarded with sightings of caribou, dall sheep, moose, buffalo, lynx, eagles, arctic foxes and more.
A few of the more domesticated animals we came into contact with, were sled dogs and ever so cute husky puppies.
