The history of alaska sled dogs dates way back but the most prominent time in history was in 1925 when there was a dash by dog sled to bring medicine to children in Nome who were at risk by a life threathening disease. In an act to memorialize the alaska sled dogs and the event, so a race was organized and by 1973 the event had evolved into the Iditarod Race.
