The little village of Aiguines is nestled on the side of a mountain and overlooks the Lac de Sante Croix. Situated in the western end of the Gorges de Verdon in the Alpes du Haute region of Provence in France. Aiguines was the property of the Abbey Saint-Vicor in the 11th century.
Visitors entering Aiguines village in Provence from the west, will immediately see the round towers of Aiguines Castle (or Chateau). The castle was built in the 17th century and was renovated in the 18th century and also again in 1913 and 1989. Each corner of Aiguines Castle has a round tower topped with a roof tiled with enamel.
Unfortunately, the Aiguines Chateau is a private residence and therefore not open to the public. However, the village of Aiguines in Provence, France has some other attractions worth seeing. The chapel of Saint Pierre is a short walk above the village and has a magnificent view of the Lac de Saint Croix.
The houses of the village are old, but painted in lovely pastels with constrasting trim. Although the the population of Aiguines is only around 250 it still should be a stop in one's travels.
